John Merrill & George Peck flipped a coin in 1901 to decide what the town would be called. Merrill, from New York City, won the toss & built the first downtown building. Incorporated December 2nd, 1912, plants were laid in the sand on Manhattan Avenue for vehicles and along the Strand streets for pedestrians.  The pier was completed in 1920, & the population grew in the ’50s as a desirable place to be.  Today you’ll find a city still evolving with older homes transforming to new.
