Learn more about Playa del Rey
Playa del Rey used to be known as “the town that was stuck in the ’70s”. It certain is a refreshing break from the usual hustle and bustle of LA. If you take the drive from Culver Blvd into town, you enjoy the view of the wetlands all around you, and you immediately feel the peace that it portrays. Playa del Rey is known for its old surf spot Toes Beach. The area of newer and older houses, condos, townhouses, and multi-family properties south of Cuver Blvd along the beach is known as The Jungle. Aside from a few banana tress on neighbors’ properties, I’m not sure why.
Playa is great for bicyclists, bladers and runners. The beach strand runs north across the bridge into the Marina out to Malibu, and heads south all the way to Palos Verdes. One thing for certain, if you apprecate the old-school feel, and the chill vibe of very little traffic aside from commuters, you may just fall in love with Playa Del Rey!
Fun facts: it’s the first beach town just north of LAX, the Los Angeles International Airport. Residents population is just over 12,000.
From San Diego Freeway (405), you can get to Playa del Rey with the directions below:
